ICOM-CECA 2026 to strengthen Jakarta's position in international networks
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta believes that hosting the world museum conference, the International Council of Museums, Committee for Education and Cultural Action (ICOM-CECA) Annual Conference 2026 on 9-14 November, will strengthen Jakarta’s position within international networks.
“This conference is an important milestone on the way to the celebration of five centuries of the city of Jakarta in 2027, while also strengthening Jakarta’s position in international networks,” said the Head of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Culture Office, Mochamad Miftahulloh Tamary, in Jakarta on Thursday.
He also expressed confidence that the staging of the ICOM-CECA Annual Conference 2026 aligns with Jakarta’s vision as a global city that is open, competitive and sustainable.
As host, he added, the DKI provincial government is committed to supporting the annual conference, which this year carries the theme “Museums in Divided Times: How to Foster Dialogue, Caring, and a Sense of Belonging?”
“This includes providing the main facilities at Taman Ismail Marzuki and facilitating coordination with various museums across Jakarta so that the entire series of activities can run smoothly and deliver the best possible experience,” said Miftahulloh.
He noted that the ICOM-CECA Annual Conference 2026 serves as an opportunity to view museums not merely as storage spaces but also as spaces for dialogue and learning, fostering care, and strengthening a sense of belonging amid various global challenges.
A wide range of activities has been prepared, from plenary sessions and panel discussions at several of Jakarta’s iconic museums, such as the Bank Indonesia Museum and the Jakarta History Museum, to cultural visits to the Onrust Archaeological Island as part of the experience of discovering Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage.
Miftahulloh then invited all stakeholders, museum communities, academics, the media and the public to jointly ensure the success of the conference so that it delivers tangible benefits for museum development, strengthens Indonesia’s cultural diplomacy, and expands international cooperation networks.
