ICOM-CECA 2026 to strengthen Jakarta's position in international networks

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government believes that hosting the International Council of Museums, Committee for Education and Cultural Action (ICOM-CECA) Annual Conference 2026 on 9-14 November will strengthen Jakarta’s position in international networks. “This conference is an important momentum leading up to the commemoration of Jakarta’s 500th anniversary in 2027, while also strengthening Jakarta’s position in international networks,” said Head of the DKI Jakarta Culture Office, Mochamad Miftahulloh Tamary, in Jakarta on Thursday. He also believes that organising the ICOM-CECA Annual Conference 2026 aligns with Jakarta’s vision as a global city that is open, competitive, and sustainable. As the host, he continued, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is committed to supporting the annual conference, which this year carries the theme “Museums in Divided Times: How to foster Dialogue, Caring, and a Sense of Belonging?”. “By providing main facilities at Taman Ismail Marzuki and facilitating coordination with various museums in Jakarta so that the entire series of activities can run smoothly and provide the best experience,” Miftahulloh said. He conveyed that the ICOM-CECA Annual Conference 2026 will be an opportunity to view museums not merely as storage spaces but also as spaces for learning dialogue, increasing awareness, and strengthening a sense of belonging amidst various global challenges. A range of activities has been prepared, from plenary sessions and panel discussions at iconic Jakarta museums such as Museum Bank Indonesia and the Jakarta History Museum, to cultural visits to Onrust Archaeological Island as part of the experience of getting to know the richness of cultural heritage in Indonesia. Miftahulloh then invited all stakeholders, museum communities, academics, media, and the public to jointly make the conference a success so that it can provide real benefits for museum development, strengthen Indonesia’s cultural diplomacy, and expand international cooperation networks.
