ICMI meets PAN's Amien Rais

JAKARTA: The Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals Association
(ICMI) said during a meeting with the leader and presidential
candidate of the National Mandate Party (PAN), Amien Rais, on
Tuesday that the country's future president should be able to run
an effective government underpinned by professional ministers.

The association's chairman, Muslimin Nasution, said after the
meeting that such a government could result from a Cabinet
consisting of professionals possessed of high levels of
integrity.

He said that the suggestion was part of ICMI's contribution to
the ongoing political development process that had led to the
July 5 presidential election.

ICMI has held talks with Golkar Party candidate Wiranto and
plans to meet the Democratic Party's Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and
the leader of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-
P), Megawati Soekarnoputri. -- Antara
