ICMI meeting to discuss GBHN
JAKARTA: The Association of Indonesian Moslem Intellectuals (ICMI) will begin its three-day annual congress today, during which some 400 leading members from across the country and abroad will discuss suggestions for the 1998 establishment of the Broad Guidelines of State Policies (GBHN).
Tamsil Linrung, the meeting committee chairman, said the meeting is expected to discuss "strategic issues," rather than technical ones, such as developing religiously devout, quality human resources,
ICMI chairman B.J. Habibie will open the meeting at the Hotel Cempaka.
Tamsil said also on the agenda is a discussion on the organization's internal affairs, especially on ways to improve the quality of members.
The association was founded on Dec. 7, 1990. It has 428 branches including 70 branches abroad, grouping more than 34 thousand members.
A number of cabinet ministers and other high rank officials will address the meeting, including Minister of National Development Planning/Chairman of the National Development Planning Board Ginandjar Kartasasmita and Armed Forces Chief Gen. Feisal Tanjung. (03)
