ICMI has new facilities
JAKARTA (JP): Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Moslem
Intellectuals (ICMI) B.J. Habibie inaugurated yesterday a new
community health center and library at the association's Sawah-
Kota branch office and launched a new social foundation.
Minister of Health Sujudi and deputy governor in charge of
people's welfare RS Museno attended the ceremony.
"All people, regardless of their religion and faith, are
invited to this community health center for medical services
which are not expensive because the center was established for
the public at large. In certain instances the center will even
serve poor people free of charge," Habibie, who is also minister
of research and technology, said.
He expressed the hope that the library would be useful to
people from all walks of life as a means for them to improve
their general knowledge.
"And especially for Moslems -- they can use the library to get
closer to Allah because the library has a lot of books on Islam
in its collection," Habibie said.
The foundation, called the Abdi Bangsa Foundation, will
provide various social services and activities, Habibie said.
The facilities are located in the densely-populated Kali Angke
sub-district. "Kali Angke was chosen as the site for the
facilities mainly is it still lagging behind other areas in terms
of economic, educational and health facilities," said Siti Ainomi
R. Lengkong, who chairs ICMI's Sawah Besar-Kota branch.
The ICMI was established in Malang, East Java, on Dec. 8,
1990.(31/bas)
