ICI sets up plant here

JAKARTA (JP): The Britain-based surfactants manufacturer ICI
will build a 6.5-million pound (US$9.7 million) production
facility in Indonesia to serve the rapidly expanding market in
Indonesia.

PT ICI Indonesia, an affiliate of ICI, said here yesterday
that the planned facility is scheduled to come on stream in the
first quarter of 1996.

But the schedule will depend on approval from the appropriate
Indonesian planning authorities, it said.

The planned plant, to be located in Cikarang east of here,
will be 60 percent controlled by ICI and the remainder by PT
Galic Bina Mada and PT Perdoni, ICI's sales agents in Indonesia
for the past twenty years.

Surfactants are auxiliary chemical products used in many
applications in the textile, pulp paper, agro chemicals and other
industries.(icn)
