ICG congratulates Akbar Tandjung

JAKARTA: The International Crisis Group (ICG) Indonesia President Gareth Evans on Wednesday met House Speaker Akbar Tandjung to discuss the political situation after the April 5 election.

During the meeting, Evans was accompanied by Sidney Jones, ICG Indonesia's Project Director.

Akbar, who is chairman of Golkar said that during the meeting, his guests hoped the general elections would bring changes to Indonesia.

"Pak Gareth Evans also congratulated me for Golkar's good showing so far in the election," he said.

Evans and Jones refused to comment directly to the press.

Chairman of House Commission I for foreign affairs Ibrahim Ambong said that they also discussed the presidential election scheduled for July 5.

Ambong said that the next president must have the support of the House of Representatives (DPR), otherwise the government would not be effective. -- JP
