The “ice coffee” case involving two construction workers from Situbondo and Banyuwangi has been decided at the Denpasar District Court. The defendants, Dwi Hendra Setiyo Budi (33) and Hanafi (39), were sentenced to five years in prison after being found guilty in the narcotics case.

In the hearing held in Chandra Room on Thursday (23/4/2026), the panel of judges led by Aline Oktavia Kurnia stated that both defendants violated Article 609 Paragraph (2) letter a of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 132 Paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 114 Paragraph (2) of the Narcotics Law.

“Imposing a prison sentence of five years on the defendants Dwi Hendra Setiyo Budi and Hanafi,” the judge firmly stated in the verdict.

In addition to the prison sentence, both were fined Rp1 billion each. If not paid within one month, the defendants’ assets will be confiscated and auctioned by the prosecutor. “If the fine is not paid, it will be replaced with imprisonment for 190 days,” the judge continued.

The verdict is lighter than the demand from the public prosecutor (JPU), who previously sought seven years in prison. Regarding the decision, the defendant’s side stated they accept it. “We accept, Your Honour,” said the defendant’s legal counsel, which was also confirmed by JPU Dewa Gede Ari Kusumajaya. Thus, this case has the force of law (final and binding).

During the trial, it was revealed that both defendants possessed 20.46 grams of methamphetamine hidden in ABC Plus coffee sachets.

JPU Dewa Ari explained that the incident occurred on 25 December 2025 around 00:10 WITA in the Seroja Street area, Denpasar, and continued around 00:30 WITA in front of Bali Exclusive Karaoke, Waribang Street, Kesiman, East Denpasar.

Initially, defendant Hanafi was contacted by someone named Busy (fugitive) to pick up a methamphetamine stash at several points. He then invited defendant Dwi to collect the package together.

The two searched in the Noja Street area, East Denpasar, but did not find the intended location. When moving places, the two became separated. Hanafi even borrowed an Alfamart employee’s phone to contact Dwi and agreed to meet near Living World.

The search resumed. Hanafi headed to Bali Exclusive Karaoke, while Dwi continued combing the South Noja Street area. It was there that Dwi finally found the methamphetamine stash.

However, upon returning, Dwi was arrested first by the police with evidence of 20.46 grams of methamphetamine wrapped in coffee plastic. The police then developed the case and secured Hanafi at a different location. The actions of both defendants were deemed as intermediaries in the sale and purchase of Class I narcotics without permission from the authorities.
