ICCC Joins Indo-Pacific Alliance, Expanding Access to Indonesian Market
JAKARTA — The Indonesia Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC), or the Indonesia-Canada Chamber of Commerce, has officially joined the Indo-Pacific business alliance encompassing 21 countries, thereby broadening market access for Indonesian business actors amid the strengthening export trends at the start of 2026.
The agreement was signed on 16 April 2026 and witnessed by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. This momentum represents the first time Canadian chambers of commerce in the Indo-Pacific region are united under one collaborative platform.
ICCC Chair Vivien Kusumowardhani stated that Indonesia holds a strategic position in Canada’s relations with the Indo-Pacific region. “Indonesia has long been part of Canada’s Indo-Pacific strategy,” she said in a press release on Wednesday (22/4/2026).
“Through the signing of this memorandum of understanding, the ICCC can play a more active role in shaping the direction of trade and investment discussions at the regional level,” Vivien continued.
The ICCC’s joining reflects a shift towards more coordinated regional cooperation, amid global competition to attract investments and strengthen supply chains in Southeast Asia.
As one of the largest and fastest-growing economies in the region, Indonesia is seen as having increasingly important potential on the Indo-Pacific trade map.
Access for Canadian business actors to the Indonesian market also becomes clearer, while ICCC members from both countries can connect with a broader Indo-Pacific business network.
Vivien added that this step is relevant to global dynamics that encourage supply chain diversification and strengthening presence in Southeast Asia.
“Global companies are currently diversifying supply chains and strengthening their presence in Southeast Asia, with Indonesia increasingly viewed as a priority market,” she explained.
“Through the CCIP network, ICCC members have more opportunities to collaborate directly with partners in various countries in the Indo-Pacific region, as well as to promote cross-country initiatives and market insight exchanges,” Vivien added.
Going forward, the ICCC will be involved in joint trade missions in the ASEAN and Canada regions, regional policy dialogues, and sectoral collaborations in energy, infrastructure, and digital trade.
Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, Ateng Hartono, stated that the annual export increase is driven by several major commodities.
“The annual increase in February exports was mainly driven by the rise in exports of several commodities,” he said in a BPS release at the BPS Head Office on Wednesday (1/4/2026).
