ICBC Indonesia Expands to Semarang, Eyes Business Opportunities in Central Java
PT Bank ICBC Indonesia officially opened its Semarang Branch on Thursday (16/7/2026), as part of the company’s expansion strategy and to strengthen banking services in one of the nation’s key economic growth centres.
Located at Jalan Jenderal Sudirman No. 99, Semarang, the branch is expected to broaden access to financial services for businesses, investors and the wider community in Central Java. Semarang is regarded as holding a strategic position as a hub for trade, industry, logistics and investment.
According to data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Semarang’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) reached Rp288 trillion in 2025. Growing export-import activity and cross-border business ties have made the city one of the engines of the regional economy.
President Director of PT Bank ICBC Indonesia Chen Yong said the opening of the Semarang Branch forms part of the company’s long-term commitment to supporting financing needs and business transactions in the region.
“We are ready to be a trusted partner supporting our customers’ financial needs and fostering ever closer economic collaboration between Indonesia and China,” he said.
As part of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) network, the bank offers a range of banking services, including international payroll, cross-border transfers in renminbi (RMB) and US dollars (USD), cash management services, and financial solutions for both corporate and individual customers. For international transactions, ICBC Indonesia also utilises the SWIFT network and the Cross-Border Interbank Payment System (CIPS).
The Semarang Branch is also staffed by professionals fluent in both Indonesian and Mandarin to serve customers with business activities involving China.
Deputy Head of Bank Indonesia’s Central Java Provincial Office Anggis Rakhmi Ichsan said the presence of the new branch could strengthen the region’s financial ecosystem.
“The presence of ICBC is expected to facilitate cross-border transactions, strengthen financing for productive sectors, and support investment growth in Central Java. Synergy between the banking industry, regulators and businesses forms an important foundation in driving inclusive, sustainable and globally competitive regional economic growth,” she said.
Wu Lei, Chairman of the China Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia (CCCI) Central Java Chapter, added that the opening of the branch is expected to further strengthen Indonesia-China economic relations, particularly through increased investment and trade in Central Java.
“With financial services brought closer to the business community, we hope ICBC can support investment and trade growth, and add value for both Chinese and Indonesian companies that continue to expand in this region,” he said.
