ICBC Indonesia Expands to Semarang, Eyes Business Opportunities in Central Java

PT Bank ICBC Indonesia has inaugurated its Semarang Branch as part of the company’s expansion strategy to strengthen banking services in one of the nation’s economic growth centres. Located on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman No. 99, Semarang, the new branch aims to broaden access to financial services for business players, investors, and the public in Central Java. Semarang is considered a strategic location due to its role as a hub for trade, industry, logistics, and investment. According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) of Semarang City reached Rp288 trillion in 2025. President Director of PT Bank ICBC Indonesia Chen Yong stated that the opening of the Semarang Branch represents the company’s long-term commitment to supporting financing needs and business transactions in the region. “We are ready to become a trusted partner in supporting the financial needs of our customers and encouraging closer economic collaboration between Indonesia and China,” he said. As part of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) network, the bank offers various banking services, including international payroll, cross-border transfers in renminbi (RMB) and US dollars (USD), as well as cash management and financial solutions for corporate and individual clients. The branch is also supported by professionals fluent in Indonesian and Mandarin to serve customers with cross-border business activities. Anggis Rakhmi Ichsan, Deputy Head of the Bank Indonesia Representative Office for Central Java, assessed that the new branch could strengthen the regional financial ecosystem. “ICBC’s presence is expected to facilitate cross-border transactions, strengthen productive sector financing, and support investment growth in Central Java,” he said. Wu Lei, Chairman of the China Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia (CCCI) Central Java Branch, added that the branch opening is expected to further strengthen Indonesia-China economic relations, particularly by boosting investment and trade in Central Java. “With financial services closer to the business community, we hope ICBC can support investment growth, trade, and provide added value for both Chinese and Indonesian companies developing in this region,” he said.
