Bung Hatta was a fatherly figure who had a broad outlook, was steadfast and displayed self-control. It was proven when he resigned from the vice presidency, as he was in disagreement with Bung Karno, the first president of the Republic of Indonesia. He then provided his children with a good education. His daughters Meuthia, Gemala and Halida respectively have all completed their postgraduate education.
