IBRA's request posses dilemma
IBRA's request posses dilemma
The request of the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency (IBRA)
to Indonesian banks to absorb the agency's employees poses a
dilemma.
On the one hand, IBRA is trying to protect its employees from
losing their jobs as the agency's existence expires in February
2004. On the other, the entry of 2,500 IBRA employees to a number
of banks might also create "unrest" among the banks' employees.
It does not mean that IBRA's employees cannot work in banks
but they have to undergo the prevailing procedures for recruiting
bank employees.
IBRA's task to restructure banks is nearing its end, but as a
whole, the agency has yet to show the expected work performance
because bank scandals, such as those involving the state banks
BNI and BRI, continue to break out.
In this context, IBRA is obliged to ascertain that the banks'
recruitment system is not influenced by the agency's request for
them to absorb IBRA employees.
