JAKARTA - The trial for the reading of the verdict against former technology consultant Ibrahim Arief, or Ibam, in the alleged corruption case of procuring Chromebook-based laptops was held at the Jakarta Corruption Court today, Tuesday (12/5/2026). “The panel of judges needed time to compile this verdict and postponed the reading of the verdict for two weeks, on 12 May 2026,” said the Chief Judge Purwanto S. Abdullah during the hearing on Tuesday (28/4/2026). In this case, the public prosecutor (JPU) demanded that Ibrahim Arief be sentenced to 15 years in prison with a fine of Rp 1 billion subsidiary 190 days. If this restitution money is not paid, the JPU demands that Ibrahim’s assets and property be confiscated by the state. If the assets are still insufficient, Ibrahim is demanded to be imprisoned for 7 years and 6 months. In the prosecutor’s indictment, Ibam is believed to have prepared a technical study referring to a specific product, namely Chromebook. The JPU also highlighted the increase in Ibam’s wealth amounting to Rp 16.9 billion, which is believed to be the result of corruption. Meanwhile, in his plea, Ibam’s legal team requested that his client be acquitted. According to the legal counsel, the JPU failed to prove the criminal act committed by Ibam in this case, including the allegation that Ibrahim enriched himself by Rp 16.9 billion as mentioned in the demand. Previously, the judge had sentenced two defendants in this case, namely former Director of Primary Schools at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Sri Wahyuningsih and Director of Junior High Schools at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Mulyatsyah. Sri was sentenced to four years in prison and a fine of Rp 500 million subsidiary 120 days’ imprisonment. Meanwhile, Mulyatsyah was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison, a fine of Rp 500 million subsidiary 120 days’ imprisonment, and to pay restitution of Rp 2.28 billion.
