Ibrahim Arief Requests Acquittal, Highlights Prosecutors' Failure to Prove Self-Enrichment Charges
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Former technology consultant Ibrahim Arief has requested to be acquitted, at the very least discharged, in the alleged corruption case involving the procurement of Chromebook-based laptops.
“I request the panel of judges to acquit the defendant Ibrahim Arief alias Ibam from the primary charge as well as the subsidiary charge, or at the very least, discharge him from the legal demands,” stated Ibam’s legal counsel, Afrian Bonjol, while reading the duplicate plea during the hearing at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Tuesday (28/4/2026).
Ibam’s side conveyed that the Public Prosecutors (JPU) failed to prove the existence of a criminal act committed by Ibam in this case.
One aspect deemed unproven is the accusation that Ibrahim enriched himself by Rp16.9 billion, as mentioned in the indictment.
Afrian stated that Ibrahim has been made a scapegoat in this case.
In fact, Ibrahim is merely a young professional who has endeavoured to serve the state.
“The defendant Ibrahim Arief alias Ibam, a young professional who has sacrificed his money, energy, and time to serve this nation, yet has been made a scapegoat in the procurement process of the aforementioned case,” Afrian added.
Through their duplicate plea, Ibrahim’s side refuted the claim that he directed ministry officials to choose Chromebooks for procurement.
The JPU demanded that Ibrahim Arief be sentenced to 15 years in prison with a fine of Rp1 billion, subsidiary to 190 days.
In the indictment, Ibrahim is not accused of enriching himself personally, but of jointly committing unlawful acts.
In this case, Ibrahim, commonly known as Ibam, is believed to have produced a technical study referencing a specific product, namely Chromebooks.
Additionally, Ibrahim presented several materials to ministry officials.
This presentation influenced the ministry officials to select Chromebooks as the product for procurement.
