Ibrahim Arief Claims Rp 16.9 Billion Replacement Amount Appeared Suddenly, Not in Chromebook Procurement Indictment
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Former technology consultant at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Ibrahim Arief, stated that the Rp 16.9 billion replacement amount demanded by the Public Prosecutor (JPU) appeared suddenly and was not present in the indictment for the alleged corruption case involving the procurement of Chromebook-based laptops.
“Because the Rp 16.9 billion figure was never in the indictment,” said Ibrahim when providing testimony after the trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court, Thursday (16/4/2026).
The tax return mentioned by the prosecutor relates to Bukalapak, Ibrahim’s former workplace, and is not connected to the Ministry of Education or Gojek, owned by former Minister of Education Nadiem Makarim.
“That figure comes from my Bukalapak shares. It has absolutely no connection to Gojek,” he added.
To the media, Ibam showed an email from Bukalapak confirming that his shares as one of the founders remain valid even after he left.
“And this can be shown easily and simply; this is my 2021 email where Bukalapak’s employee service confirms that I am one of the early shareholders of Bukalapak,” said Ibam while displaying an email on his laptop.
“Before Bukalapak’s IPO, they paid the Founder’s tax of 0.5 percent amounting to Rp 84,614,729, which when divided by 0.5 percent results in that Rp 16 billion,” he added.
“In the prosecution itself that was read out, they already admitted there was no flow of funds to me, so I feel this is being forced. There is no flow of funds to me, no profit, no conflict of interest. So, they’re just looking for some big number,” Ibam said again.
The JPU demanded that Ibrahim Arief be sentenced to 15 years in prison with a fine of Rp 1 billion subsidiary 190 days.
He was also demanded to pay replacement funds of Rp 16.9 billion subsidiary 7.5 years in prison.
In this case, Ibrahim, commonly known as Ibam, is believed to have prepared a technical study referring to a specific product, namely Chromebook.
Additionally, Ibrahim presented several materials to ministry officials. This presentation influenced the ministry officials to choose Chromebook as the product for procurement.
