Ibnu Sina Hospital denies cutting intestines of infant who died following surgery
Simpang Empat (ANTARA) - Ibnu Sina Islamic Hospital (RSI) Simpang Empat, located in West Pasaman Regency, West Sumatra, has denied allegations that it performed an intestinal cutting procedure on an eight-month-old infant who subsequently passed away. The case was reported to the police by the family on suspicion of malpractice.
The Director of RSI Ibnu Sina Simpang Empat, Meri Herliza, stated in Simpang Empat on Tuesday that the hospital would cooperate fully with the legal process and provide statements if requested by the police.
“During treatment at RSI Ibnu Sina, the patient received good service in accordance with existing procedures. We also deny that any cutting of the patient’s intestines took place,” said Meri.
According to her, the hospital has not yet received a summons from the police regarding the report filed by the family of the patient, Rasya Arfa Bian Shaarim (8 months).
Meri expressed condolences for the patient’s death and emphasised that the medical handling adhered to professional standards, service standards, standard operating procedures, and professional ethics.
She explained that after consulting with a paediatrician, the surgeon determined that the patient required immediate surgery. “Before the surgery, the family was notified,” she added.
The surgery was performed on 2 September. Following the procedure, the patient was hospitalised for seven days and was subsequently discharged after their condition was deemed to have improved, with instructions for outpatient care.
On 9 September, the patient was brought back to the Emergency Department. Upon assessing the condition, the surgeon recommended that the patient be referred to a hospital in Padang City.
A report has been filed under Number LP/B/243/IX/2026/SPKT/Polres Pasaman Barat/Polda Sumatera Barat regarding the alleged malpractice that led to the infant’s death.
Legal counsel for the family suspects negligence and actions that did not comply with standard operating procedures during the surgical procedure. The family also claims they were not informed regarding the alleged removal of part of the patient’s intestines during the operation.
“We are invoking Article 440, paragraph (2) of Law Number 17 of 2023 concerning Health, which carries a threat of five years in prison,” said Ahmad Romi.
Police are currently investigating the report and requesting statements from several related parties.
