Ibnu Jamil Relieved! PP Tunas Officially Bans Under-16s from Social Media
Actor Ibnu Jamil has applauded the application of PP Tunas (Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025), which requires digital platforms to safeguard children through age-appropriate access restrictions, data verification, and filtering of harmful content. He views this policy as a crucial step in addressing the challenges of the digital age. “I’m really relieved and delighted. Thank you, Madam Minister, for championing this. Honestly, in this explosion of digital technology, we as parents really need clear rules for social media,” said Ibnu Jamil during an interview at Republika’s office on Tuesday (31/3/2026). As a parent, Ibnu admitted to strongly supporting the regulation. He assessed that underage children do not yet possess the cognitive capacity and ability to process information like adults. This makes children more susceptible to influences from the content they consume. “Honestly, as a parent, I’m really happy with rules like this. Because underage children have different cognitive abilities from adults. Children’s imitation skills are extraordinary, so they might imitate any news or viewing material,” he said. Ibnu did not deny that social media has positive impacts on one side, such as serving as a medium for creativity and expressing opinions. Even according to him, nowadays anyone can utilise digital platforms for various roles, including becoming an independent football commentator or pundit. Nevertheless, Ibnu emphasised that such freedom must be balanced with clear rules, especially to protect underage children. He underscored the importance of regulations like PP Tunas so that the use of digital media remains safe and appropriate to children’s developmental stages. “But coming back to it, when talking about underage children, such rules are really needed,” said Ibnu.
