IBL plans Sunday tsunami benefit

JAKARTA: The Indonesian Basketball League (IBL) will hold a fund-raising event for tsunami victims on Sunday in Senayan, Central Jakarta.

IBL director Agus A. Mauro said on Wednesday that top IBL players, celebrities and also State Minister of Youth Affairs and Sport Adhiyaksa Dault were scheduled to participate in various games.

Aspac's Riko Handono and Marion Wuysang, as well as Youbel Sondakh and Charles Bronson of Indonesia Muda (IM), have confirmed to play from the professional ranks, while actors Adjie Pangestu, Ari Wibowo and Samuel Rizal would be among the celebrities on hand, he said.

On the schedule are a game between celebrities and journalists, one pitting two teams of IBL players, an IBL players' slam dunk and three point contests, Agus said.

The event, scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. at Bung Karno Basketball Stadium, is expected to raise Rp 500 million (US$55,000) for people affected by the tsunami in Aceh and North Sumatra, he added. -- JP
