The primary duty of a midwife is to provide comprehensive health services for women throughout their reproductive cycle.

Wamena (ANTARA) - The Jayawability Branch of the Indonesian Midwives Association (IBI) in Highland Papua has ensured that 206 midwives are assisting in providing comprehensive health services for women’s reproductive health across 40 districts in the local area.

The Chairperson of the Jayawijaya IBI Branch, Midwife Ming Sumarah Isham, stated in a written report in Wamena on Sunday that there are currently 206 midwives recorded, assisting in reproductive health services for women, including pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum care, newborns, and family planning.

“We have 206 midwives working to assist health services, specifically serving women throughout their reproductive cycle, such as pregnant women, childbirth, postpartum, newborns, as well as family planning,” she said.

According to her, providing services to the community involves many challenges faced by midwives in the field, one of which is the security situation.

“The most significant factor that sometimes makes midwives feel fearful is security, even though the midwifery profession is very important in providing health certainty for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and their babies,” she noted.

She explained that the main task of a midwife is to provide comprehensive health services for women throughout their reproductive cycle.

“These health services include prenatal care, assistance during childbirth, postpartum care, newborn care, family planning (KB) services, as well as reproductive health education in both health facilities and the community,” she said.

She added that midwives have six main duties in accordance with Law Number 4 of 2019 concerning Midwifery, namely: midwifery service provider, educator, manager of midwifery services, teacher, community mobiliser, and researcher.

“We always hope that our members, while providing services in the 40 districts of Jayawijaya Regency, are always protected by God Almighty and well-accepted by the community, so they can carry out their primary duties and functions optimally,” she concluded.
