Ibas: The young generation is the main driver of digital economic development
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Deputy Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) of the Republic of Indonesia, who is also the Chairman of the Democratic Party Faction in the House of Representatives, Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono, stated that the young generation is the main driver in the field of advancement in the digital economy and creative industries.
This was stated by Ibas (his familiar nickname) after observing the large number of young people, especially Generation Z, who have become the main players in the development of digital technology.
“The young generation is not merely an heir to the future, but the designer of that future itself,” he said while delivering a public lecture at Seoul National University (SNU), as quoted from a press release received in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Ibas explained that the current young generation has transformed into a new global force because it is supported by creativity, innovation, and the ability to utilise digital technology.
With digital technology, young people are not only successfully reviving the economy but also developing local culture onto the international stage.
Ibas also highlighted South Korea’s success in utilising culture as global soft power, through phenomena such as Squid Game, Blackpink, and the film Parasite.
He added that Indonesia has similar potential through its cultural richness and the creativity of its young generation.
Therefore, he positively welcomed the cooperation between Indonesia and South Korea in enhancing the digital economy and the utilisation of local culture through the creative industries.
This cooperation needs to be built because both parties have strengths that complement each other.
According to Ibas, South Korea excels in technological innovation and digital transformation, while Indonesia has advantages in its demographic bonus, the energy of the young generation, and a rapidly growing digital market.
“The collaboration between Indonesia and Korea is not merely a partnership, but a shared future that we must build,” he explained.
With this collaboration, Ibas believes Indonesia will become a country that successfully utilises the digital economy to develop creative industries on the international stage.
