Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice Chairman of the MPR RI, Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono (Ibas), is promoting information sovereignty in the digital era through collaboration between the government, media, and digital platforms to create a healthy, accurate, and high-quality information ecosystem.

“We want a healthy and good information ecosystem because if everyone can access the right, accurate, fair, and balanced news, then our generation will also grow and develop in a healthy manner,” said Ibas in a statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Amid the rapid flow of disinformation and the proliferation of hoaxes on various digital platforms, Ibas assessed that concrete steps are needed to ensure the public receives accountable information.

According to him, this challenge cannot be addressed with conventional approaches alone.

“Higher quality standards for information are required, which we can achieve together, and furthermore, through digital literacy so that our society can continue to understand the difference between right and wrong, good and bad,” he stated.

He emphasised that improving information quality must go hand in hand with strengthening digital literacy among the public to enable critical content selection. He is optimistic that cross-sectoral cooperation will bring positive results.

“Amid these challenges, I am also confident that synergy between the government, media, politics, parliament, and digital platforms will create a better ecosystem,” he said.

In addition, he noted that President Prabowo Subianto’s policy direction also promotes digital sovereignty, not only through infrastructure development but also through more friendly yet protective regulations for the younger generation.

He further highlighted the conditions faced by journalists in the digital era, many of whom encounter pressure or intimidation while carrying out their duties. In this context, he reminded of the essence of democratic principles.

“Democracy indeed provides freedom of speech, commentary, and opinion, but there must still be an aspect of covering both sides (balance) so that the information conveyed remains impartial,” he stated.
