Ibas Oversees BSPS Programme to Realise Decent Housing and Prosperous Villages

Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI), Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono (Ibas), is overseeing the state’s presence through the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) programme to realise decent housing as a foundation for creating healthy families and prosperous villages. In a statement received in Jakarta on Monday, Ibas said that a house is a basic need for every family. According to him, providing safe and decent housing is an important part of improving the community’s quality of life while strengthening family welfare. “A house is a place where we take shelter and build family life. I hear that many people’s homes still need repair. God willing, we will continue to fight for every aspiration we receive so that more people can have decent housing,” he said. Ibas stated that building decent housing is not just about improving physical structures, but also about building family peace as the foundation of national life. “The Javanese have a very good saying, ‘rukun ing omah, tentrem ing urip’: harmony at home, peace in life, and ‘kulawarga ayem, negara tentrem’: a peaceful family, a peaceful country,” he said. He stressed that there should no longer be people living in houses with leaking roofs, fragile walls, or inadequate floors. “We want people to live more decently. There must be no more houses with leaking roofs, fragile walls, or dirt floors. Let us work together to provide truly decent housing for the community,” he said. According to him, the programme, which has been running since the era of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, continues to provide benefits to communities in need of decent housing. He hopes the programme’s reach will be expanded. Although the value of the BSPS assistance is not always large, Ibas said its benefits remain significant for recipient families. He noted that the programme’s success is also inseparable from the spirit of mutual cooperation between village governments and the community, who work together to complete the construction of residents’ homes. “The assistance of Rp20 million may seem small, but its benefits are enormous in improving people’s homes to make them more decent. I also thank the village heads and the entire community who worked together to successfully complete this programme,” he said. On Saturday (4/7), Ibas inspected the implementation of the BSPS programme in Mendolo Kidul Village, Pacitan Regency, East Java, while also conducting a socialisation event on the Four Pillars of the MPR RI with the theme ‘One Sense, One Nation: Decent Housing, Healthy Families, and Prosperous Villages’.
