Ibas: BSPS Programme Embodies State's Commitment to Providing Decent Housing
Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono (Ibas), has affirmed that the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) programme is a concrete manifestation of the state’s presence in providing decent housing for the community. According to him, a decent home is not merely a place of shelter, but a foundation for creating healthy, productive, and prosperous families.
The Chairman of the Democratic Party Faction in the House of Representatives (DPR) conveyed this during a review of the BSPS programme in Mendolo Kidul Village, Pacitan Regency, on Saturday (4/7). During the visit, the representative for the East Java VII electoral district took the time to visit the home of one of the BSPS beneficiaries, Susi. Ibas observed first-hand the changes in the house’s condition, which is now much more liveable, safe, and comfortable to occupy.
Ibas expressed his appreciation for the sustainability of the BSPS programme, which has been felt by the community for many years. He noted that the programme has been running since the era of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and continues to provide benefits to those in need of decent housing. He hopes that more Indonesian families will be able to experience its benefits.
According to Ibas, a house is a basic need for every family. Therefore, providing a safe and decent home is an important part of improving the community’s quality of life while strengthening family welfare. He revealed that many houses in villages still require repairs and that he will continue to fight for these aspirations so that more residents can enjoy the BSPS programme.
Ibas further emphasised that building decent housing is not just about improving physical structures, but also about building family peace as the foundation of national life. He quoted Javanese wisdom, stating that harmony at home leads to peace in life, and a calm family contributes to a peaceful nation.
He also reminded that there should no longer be people living in houses with leaking roofs, fragile walls, or dirt floors. He called for collective efforts to provide truly decent housing for the community. Ibas noted that while the BSPS assistance value of IDR 20 million may seem small, its benefits are significant for improving residents’ homes. He thanked the village government and the community for their mutual cooperation in successfully completing the housing construction.
Closing the activity, Ibas stressed that successful development is always born from collaboration between the government, representatives, village administration, and the community. Beneficiary Susi expressed her gratitude, stating that her house no longer leaks, is sturdier, and is much more comfortable to live in with her children. The Head of Mendolo Kidul Village, Suyono, also expressed appreciation to Ibas for various programmes that have benefited the village, including the BSPS programme and the Accelerated Improvement of Irrigation Water Use (P3-TGAI) programme.
