Ibas: BSPS Programme a Genuine Effort to Strengthen Quality of Life
Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) and Chairperson of the Democratic Faction in the House of Representatives (DPR), Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono (Ibas), emphasised the importance of adequate housing as a foundation for community welfare and healthy living. He highlighted this as a catalyst for positive change and productive families as the key to rural development.
He made these remarks during a parliamentary recess visit to Carat Village, Ponorogo, to conduct oversight and provide support for the BSPS (Stimulus Assistance for Self-Help Housing) programme, which aims to provide adequate housing, healthy living conditions, and productive families.
“The BSPS programme is a genuine effort to strengthen the quality of life of communities. Adequate housing is not merely a physical matter, but also a symbol of a better future for families,” Ibas said in a statement on Sunday, 1 March 2026.
Ibas also stressed the ongoing challenges facing implementation, such as budget constraints and the need for more intensive programme oversight. However, with synergy among all stakeholders, Carat Village has the potential to become an example of an advanced and prosperous community. The Democratic Faction, he said, will continue supporting this programme and ensure that aid reaches its intended beneficiaries.
“Our hope is that Carat Village can become an example of an advanced, self-reliant, and prosperous community. All of this can be achieved if mutual cooperation and shared commitment are implemented properly,” said Ibas.
In addition to inspecting homes of aid recipients, Ibas also received community input regarding village public facilities, including the need to refurbish the community meeting hall for optimal utilisation.
“God willing, we will assist in the refurbishment of the meeting hall so that it can function properly for community activities, sports, and other social activities, so that the benefits can be enjoyed collectively,” Ibas said.
The inspection was attended by the Commander of Kodim 0802 Ponorogo Lieutenant Colonel Arh Farauk Saputra, Ponorogo Police Chief AKBP Andin Wisnu Sudibyo, Kauman Military Subdistrict Commander Captain Arm Ahmad Haryono, Kauman Police Subdistrict Chief Haryo Kusbintoro, Kauman District Chief Toni Khristiawan, Carat Village Head H. Mujiono, and several Ponorogo DPRD members including Binti, Yuliana, Elvis Wibisono, Agus Suwito, and Widodo. The inspection was also attended by BSPS beneficiary Boniran and residents of Carat Village who warmly welcomed the delegation.
This recess activity underscores that the development of adequate housing and family empowerment in villages is not merely a physical programme, but part of a strategy to enhance social and economic welfare and strengthen community resilience in Ponorogo.
