Ibam Files Appeal in Chromebook Case, Utilises AI to Analyse Judicial Irregularities

Former Technology Consultant at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Ibrahim Arief, alias Ibam, has officially filed an appeal (kasasi) to the Supreme Court regarding the alleged corruption in the Chromebook procurement case, following the increase of his criminal sentence by the Jakarta High Court.

Ibam’s lawyer, Bayu Perdana, believes there was an error in the application of the law at the High Court level. “This includes the imposition of Rp5 billion in restitution against Ibam, as it was not based on valid and convincing evidence,” Bayu stated in a briefing received in Jakarta on Monday (14/09/2026).

Through this appeal, Bayu hopes that the Supreme Court will conduct a thorough review of the Chromebook case, rectify the errors in the application of the law found in the ruling, and deliver a fair verdict, including the acquittal of Ibam from the charges.

Since the legal case began, he noted, Ibam has developed artificial intelligence (AI) technology to analyse the alignment between evidence, trial facts, and the testimonies of all witnesses. The AI has reportedly identified several patterns that, according to the legal team, indicate irregularities in the imposition of the Rp5 billion restitution.

“We will explain this in a complete and structured manner within the memorandum of appeal submitted to the Supreme Court,” he said.

Responding to various reactions to Ibam’s social media posts, Bayu expressed great appreciation for the public support. He added that, based on monitoring by the legal team, many parties are also helping to oversee and provide attention to the documents and the legal process currently being undergone by Ibam.
