Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Institute of Indonesia Chartered Accountants (Ieg. IAPI) is conducting the 10th batch of the Certified Financial Investigator (CFI) Education and Certification programme, aimed at public accountants, as well as legal and financial practitioners seeking to deepen their expertise in investigative auditing.

“This certification workshop has been conducted for 9 batches from 2017 to 2024. This time, we are conducting the certification workshop for the 10th batch. Over the last approximately 10 years, we have produced nearly 500 alumni, and this number will increase with the current batch,” stated the Chairman of the IAPI Investigation Services Committee, Rizki Damir Mustika, during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday.

Furthermore, this activity serves as a strategic platform to enhance participants’ competence in the investigative engagement process. The training curriculum focuses on updating laws and regulations, investigating trends, administrative processes, and technical field applications.

Broadly speaking, the CFI Certification programme aims to improve the quality of Public Accountants (AP) in the fields of investigative auditing and litigation support, preparing Public Accountants to be reliable expert witnesses in court, and strengthening the role of the public accounting profession in achieving good governance and public accountability.

“The goal is certainly to increase the competence of public accountants, particularly in the field of investigation, and to synergise with relevant parties, namely law enforcement agencies, the prosecutor’s office, advocates, and other professions, to assist them in law enforcement, especially in the field of financial investigation in Indonesia,” said Rizki.

Mohammad Mahsun, Chairman of the Indonesian Investigator Accountants Forum (FAIr) of IAPI for the 2025-2029 period, stated that market demand for investigation services has been significant year after year, prompting a commitment to continuously improve competence through both experience and knowledge.

“From the batches we have built year after year, we are constantly improving the materials and curriculum to meet market demands. Our market includes law enforcement agencies, legal advisers, and the public, all of whom require what is known as financial investigation services,” said Mahust.

Irwanto, Chairman of the Indonesian Investigator Accountants Forum (FAIr) of IAPI for the 2021-2025 period, emphasised that the purpose of establishing this certification is to assist law enforcement in calculating financial losses by identifying indications of fraud.

“This differs from the existing public accounting ecosystem, which involves auditing financial reports and providing opinions. This programme does not do that; instead, it concludes whether there are indications of fraud or not. Therefore, it is a new ecosystem,” he said.

During the first three days, participants are provided with classical classroom material covering investigative examination methodologies, techniques, and strategies; calculation of financial losses; investigative examination reporting; and the role of public accountants in the law enforcement process. On the fourth day, participants undergo evaluation through written and interview examinations, followed by a sharing session.

As the climax and final stage on the fifth day, participants are required to participate in a role-play simulation of a Corruption Criminal Case (Tipikor) trial.

In this simulation, CFI participants will directly practice the role of an Expert Witness before a panel of judges. This method is designed to provide practical experience regarding trial dynamics, techniques for delivering expert testimony, procedures for answering questions, and the ability to defend arguments consistently and convincingly under oath.
