Vienna (ANTARA) - The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Saturday (21/3) emphasised the need for military restraint to avoid the risk of nuclear accidents following a new attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

The IAEA stated via social media that it had been informed by Iran about the attack on the Natanz nuclear facility on Saturday morning local time.

The agency is investigating the situation and has not received reports of any increase in radiation levels outside the location.

The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran reported that Israel and the United States (US) had targeted the Natanz uranium enrichment complex on Saturday morning local time. There are no reports of radioactive leaks, and residents in the surrounding area are not at risk.

Iran’s nuclear facilities have been targeted several times since the joint Israel-US military launched attacks against the Middle Eastern country on 28 February.

Last week, on Tuesday (17/3) evening local time, an attack struck the area of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant on the southern coast along the Persian Gulf.

Iranian authorities stated that it was the third attack around Iran’s nuclear facilities after Natanz and Isfahan, and urged the IAEA to condemn the attacks, warning of a “very critical and serious situation.”
