IAEA to proceed with Iran nuclear inspections despite objections
Istanbul (ANTARA) - International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi has confirmed that nuclear inspections at Iran’s uranium enrichment facilities will proceed, despite objections from Tehran, Euronews reported on Wednesday. Grossi rejected Iran’s denial of an agreed nuclear inspection, which is contained in a memorandum of understanding with the United States, while speaking at a press conference at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in Japan. The agreement explicitly states that nuclear activities related to nuclear material facilities will be fully monitored by the IAEA, Grossi told reporters. “Of course, for that, we have to conduct inspections. Whether the inspection takes place in two days, one week, or ten days is important, but it is not essential. The inspection will still be carried out,” he added. Trump also refuted Iran’s claim that no visit was scheduled for IAEA inspectors, even though US Vice President J.D. Vance had announced that Iran agreed to allow the nuclear inspectors to return to the country. The US and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding online last week, launching a 60-day negotiation window to resolve disputes, including the fate of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile, its nuclear programme, and other unresolved issues. The deal also includes plans for economic reconstruction and development for Iran worth at least 300 billion US dollars, oil export exemptions, the release of frozen Iranian assets, and Tehran’s reaffirmation that it will not develop nuclear weapons.
