Moscow (ANTARA) - The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has stated that it has received reports regarding a series of drone attacks threatening nuclear safety and security at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), Ukraine.

In an official statement posted on the social media platform X on Saturday, the IAEA mentioned that attacks on 19, 20, and 27 September damaged several transformers that are vital for the plant’s electricity supply.

Additionally, an attack on 22 September reportedly disabled a radiation monitoring station located outside the NPP area.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi emphasised that attacks endangering nuclear safety are entirely unacceptable and must be stopped immediately.

Grossi also urged all parties to exercise military restraint to prevent the risk of a nuclear accident.

Meanwhile, Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev expressed the view that the global community will eventually realise that the nuclear risks at ZNPP stem from the reckless actions of Ukrainian forces.

The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant is located on the left bank of the Dnipro River near the city of Enerhodar, Ukraine.

The power plant complex has been under Russian control since October 2022, with all its units having been in cold shutdown status since April 2024.
