IAEA Concerned Over Attacks on Iran's Bushehr Nuclear Plant, Iran Warns Radiation Could Devastate Arab Capitals
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TEHRAN – The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, on Monday (6/4/2026) warned that recent attacks near Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) could cause a serious radiation accident. Grossi urged that the attacks on the nuclear power plant and its surroundings be stopped immediately.
“Once again, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi warns that ongoing military activities near the BNPP - a power plant operating with a large amount of nuclear fuel - could lead to a severe radiological accident with dangerous consequences for people and the environment in Iran and beyond,” the IAEA said in a statement posted on X.
Grossi stated that the attacks pose a significant threat to nuclear safety. Iran accuses the United States and Israel of being involved in those attacks.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Saturday (4/4/2026) that the radioactive impact from an attack on the Bushehr nuclear power plant would destroy life in the capitals of Persian Gulf countries, not in Tehran.
“Remember the West’s anger over hostilities occurring near the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine? Israel and the US have bombed our Bushehr plant four times. The radiation impact will end life in the capitals of GCC countries, not Tehran,” Araghchi said on the X platform.
Previously, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) reported three attacks on the Bushehr nuclear power plant on 17, 24, and 27 March. Iran also recorded two attacks on the Natanz nuclear facility on 1 and 21 March, as well as an attack on the heavy water production plant in Khondab on 27 March and on the uranium concentrate production plant in Ardakan.
