The 35-member Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Wednesday adopted a resolution calling on Iran to provide information about its stockpile of enriched uranium and to grant access required to verify that information. The resolution was adopted with 21 votes in favour, three against, and 10 abstentions, according to a statement released by the UN watchdog. The Board urged Iran to provide complete information on its nuclear material inventory and design information for facilities, and to provide the Agency with all access needed to verify this information. The Board also expressed deep concern over a report by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi stating that the IAEA has not had full access for almost a year to verify previously declared high-enriched uranium (HEU) and low-enriched uranium (LEU) in Iran. Furthermore, the board strongly deplored Iran’s continued failure to rectify its non-compliance over the past 12 months. This includes Iran’s failure to provide the requested information and the necessary access for the IAEA to verify previously declared nuclear material that the Agency has been unable to verify for one year. The resolution also recalled the board’s decision in June 2025, which found that Iran had failed to provide full and timely cooperation in providing information regarding undeclared nuclear material and activities at several undeclared locations in the country since 2019. The Board reaffirmed its support for a diplomatic solution and called on Iran to engage seriously and without preconditions in talks aimed at building international confidence in the exclusively peaceful nature of its nuclear programme.
