IAAF helps teach coaching skills

JAKARTA: The Jakarta-based regional athletics development center (RDC Jakarta) is holding a coaching seminar in an attempt to improve coaching skills in its member countries in the Southeast Asian region and its environs.

The seminar, which will concentrate specifically on sprinting and hurdling, began on Friday and will run until the end of this month. Fifteen participants from 11 countries are attending the course.

"The aim of this seminar is to help improve the quality of coaching within the Southeast Asian region. Hopefully, the participants will leave with wider knowledge, which will be passed on to their communities in the region," said Australia's Nik Hagicostas, one of two lecturers at the seminar.

The other is Germany's Winfried Vonstein. Both are the experienced lecturers from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

The participating countries include Bangladesh, Indonesia, India, Iran, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam. --JP
