Hyundai workers endorse strike
SEOUL: Workers at South Korea's leading carmaker, Hyundai Motor, voted on Tuesday to endorse a strike proposed by union leaders demanding higher wages, officials said.
The proposed strike won 75 percent of 38,337 union members who cast ballots on Tuesday, the union said.
The union, however, gave no timetable for its action, saying it could resume talks with Hyundai, the world's seventh largest auto company.
Hyundai has rejected union demands for a 10.48 percent pay increase and a 30 percent share of the firm's net profit as special bonuses.
The union, which has 41,515 members out of the firm's total 57,000 regular workforce, has also demanded the company improve working conditions for some 10,000 non-regular workers.
Workers at Hyundai's subsidiary Kia Motors will vote next week. -- AFP
