Jakarta (ANTARA) - South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor plans to increase its commitment to the Chinese market by launching 20 new models over the next five years. This move is part of the company’s aggressive strategy to re-strengthen its position in the world’s largest automotive market. According to CarNewsChina, on Friday (24/4), the manufacturer targets an increase in annual sales in China to 500,000 units by 2030 through the Beijing Hyundai joint venture with BAIC. This target also includes exporting vehicles from China to global markets. In his statement to the media, he emphasised that the company will “double down” on its focus in the Chinese market. The Ioniq V model becomes the first production vehicle in the Ioniq line developed specifically for the Chinese market, with technology adapted to local needs. This car is built on an electric vehicle platform developed jointly with BAIC, equipped with an 800-volt fast-charging system, using batteries from CATL, as well as driver assistance technology developed jointly with Chinese autonomous company Momenta. The Ioniq V’s dimensions are 4,900 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,470 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm. Hyundai states that the long-range version of this model can travel more than 600 kilometres based on China’s CLTC standard. However, the company has not yet disclosed detailed battery capacity, powertrain specifications, price, or launch timing. This production model retains many elements of the concept design, including a wedge-shaped profile and a single curved silhouette. Hyundai states that the China-specific Ioniq model will use a local design named “The Origin”, different from the global design language “Art of Steel”. In the interior, the Ioniq V is equipped with a 27-inch panoramic screen and Hyundai’s Horizon head-up display. The company also claims front legroom of 1,078 mm and rear legroom of 1,019 mm. Other features include a Dolby Atmos audio system and additional noise-cancelling technology. The Ioniq V is part of Hyundai’s broader strategy titled “In China, For China, To Global”. Hyundai previously stated that it will stop merely bringing global models to China and will start relying more on local designs, local technology partners, and China-based development cycles.
