Jakarta (ANTARA) - Officials from Hyundai Motor Indonesia have stated that the company is actively monitoring the global situation following reports of the recall of the premium SUV Hyundai Palisade in the United States due to a seat issue that resulted in a fatality. The Hyundai Palisade vehicles marketed in Indonesia are known to be imported fully built (Completely Built Up/CBU) from South Korea. In response to news of the recall of tens of thousands of Hyundai Palisade units in the US, Chief Operating Officer of Hyundai Motor Indonesia, Fransiscus Soerjopranoto, conveyed that the company is coordinating with its principal to determine the appropriate steps. “Hyundai Motor Indonesia continues to actively monitor developments on this issue and is coordinating with the principal to ensure the right steps are taken,” he said when contacted by ANTARA from Jakarta on Friday. Hyundai Motor Indonesia reaffirms the company’s commitment to prioritising customer safety. “We remain committed to prioritising customer safety; if in the future certain steps are required for the Indonesian market, Hyundai Motor Indonesia will follow up in accordance with applicable regulations,” Fransiscus stated. However, Fransiscus has not yet confirmed the impact of the fatal incident involving the Hyundai Palisade in the US on the Hyundai Palisade vehicles already marketed in Indonesia. Hyundai has also halted sales of several higher-end versions of its latest Palisade SUV. In the United States and Canada, the company is recalling 68,500 units of the new Palisade SUV following an accident that resulted in the death of a two-year-old girl in Ohio on 7 March. In that accident, the automatic seat of the Palisade SUV collapsed and crushed the child who was seated in the third row. Hyundai stated that it is investigating the incident. The automatic seat issue is also suspected to be the cause of injuries to two passengers in another Palisade SUV in Korea in October and December last year.
