Hyundai Motor sales fall by 16 per cent in September
South Korea’s largest car manufacturer, Hyundai Motor Co., has announced that its sales in September 2026 fell by 16 per cent compared to the same period last year, primarily due to a reduction in working days caused by the Chuseok holiday.
Furthermore, the decline in sales was also driven by delays in demand for new models.
According to official company statements reported by Yonhap on Thursday, Hyundai sold 307,998 vehicles in September 2026, down from 366,731 units in the same month the previous year.
Domestic sales in South Korea plummeted by 25.7 per cent to 49,022 units from 66,001 units a year earlier, while overseas sales dropped by 13.9 per cent to 258,976 units from 300,730 units.
Hyundai plans to launch the latest Tucson SUV in the domestic market as part of its efforts to expand its SUV lineup.
For the period of January to September, Hyundai’s cumulative sales fell by 7 per cent to 2,886,763 vehicles, down from 3,105,346 units during the same period last year.
Domestic sales decreased by 16.3 per cent to 448,181 units in the first nine months of this year from 535,458 units a year earlier, while overseas sales declined by 5.1 per cent to 2,438,582 units from 2,569,888 units.
