Hyundai Ioniq 9 Already in Indonesia, But Not Yet for Sale
JAKARTA — PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia has introduced its latest electric vehicle, the Ioniq 9, at the N Brand Experience Centre in SCBD, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta.
This large electric SUV has already caught attention, particularly as units have been spotted on Jakarta’s roads. However, Hyundai has clarified that the model is not yet available for official sale through its dealership network in Indonesia.
“As of now, this vehicle (Ioniq 9) has not been commercialised and is not included on the list of vehicles sold by Hyundai, particularly through dealerships,” said Frans during an event in South Jakarta on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.
Additionally, the units already present in Indonesia are being utilised for market research purposes to assess the commercial potential before deciding on the next steps for sales.
“Why are the vehicles already circulating? We are currently evaluating whether this vehicle will have an opportunity in the Indonesian market,” Frans explained.
According to him, Hyundai typically takes a phased approach before introducing new models to specific markets. Consumer response is an important factor before a vehicle is launched commercially.
To date, there has been no final decision regarding the sale of the Ioniq 9 in Indonesia.
“So there is no definitive answer yet. What is clear is that the vehicle exists and we can use it for our internal needs,” Frans stated.
The Hyundai Ioniq 9 was first introduced globally in November 2024 and officially launched in South Korea in February 2025. This electric SUV has a length of 5,060 mm and width of 1,980 mm, offering a spacious and comfortable cabin for passengers.
