Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chief Operating Officer of Hyundai Motors Indonesia, Fransiscus Soerjopranoto, has confirmed that the software update for the Hyundai Palisade SUV in Indonesia is underway following the electric seat incident in the United States. Fransiscus stated that the system update is carried out through an over-the-air (OTA) mechanism, allowing it to be downloaded directly to the vehicle without the need for complicated handling at a workshop. “We have already carried out what is called a software update. It’s very easy, we do it through over-the-air or OTA,” said Fransiscus in Jakarta on Wednesday. According to him, the update is intended to prevent potential problems with the electric seat mechanism to ensure a similar case does not occur with vehicles in Indonesia. He noted that the software update process has been ongoing and the majority of affected vehicles have received the system update. Previously, Hyundai conducted a recall of tens of thousands of Palisade units in the United States after reports of incidents related to the electric seat mechanism emerged. The case came to light after a toddler was reported to have died after being trapped by an electric seat in a Hyundai Palisade in the United States in March 2026. The seat sensor reportedly failed to detect the object, causing the seat to continue folding. Nevertheless, Fransiscus emphasised that no similar cases have occurred in Indonesia to date. “But we should be grateful, because up to now in Indonesia there have been no cases, only in America,” he said. He added that the company has also provided information to customers regarding the handling process and assured that the update is still covered under the vehicle’s warranty. “We are handling it and we have informed customers that this is still under warranty and our handling. So there’s no need to worry about that,” said Fransiscus.
