Hyundai Finally Speaks Out Amid Aa Juju's Ioniq 5 Case Uproar
Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) has spoken out regarding the controversy surrounding influencer Aa Juju’s Hyundai Ioniq 5, which has been widely discussed on social media. The complaints cover technical issues with the vehicle as well as the customer’s experience when communicating with sales staff and aftersales services.
The case came to light after Aa Juju shared his experience of using the Ioniq 5, which he purchased outright in cash. In several posts, he complained that the car was at times unable to perform fast charging, experienced problems after being parked in parallel for a long period, and even shut down completely.
Head of Public Relations at PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia, Rouli Sijabat, conveyed the company’s apology for the problems experienced by the customer.
“On behalf of Hyundai Indonesia, we extend our deepest apologies for the discomfort and situation experienced by our customer, both regarding the product usage experience and the service from our sales and aftersales team,” Rouli told CNBC Indonesia on Friday (21/8/2026).
The matter then developed when Aa Juju’s complaints about his car also led to a dispute with a sales supervisor at one of Hyundai’s dealerships. A video of their conversation went viral and drew public attention, particularly regarding the quality of customer service.
Hyundai stated that the issue is now a matter of company concern. The handling relates not only to the condition of the vehicle but also to the customer’s experience when interacting with Hyundai’s sales network and aftersales services.
“We have received the feedback and are currently carrying out thorough handling and investigation to ensure the best resolution for the customer,” said Rouli.
Meanwhile, the Hyundai sales supervisor involved in the dispute with Aa Juju has also issued a public apology. He acknowledged that the service attitude he displayed was inappropriate and stated that he is ready to take responsibility for his actions.
The case has drawn attention because electric vehicle issues are not only related to vehicle performance but also to consumer and sales staff understanding of the characteristics and features of electric cars. Moreover, the Ioniq 5 is one of Hyundai’s electric vehicle models that has been marketed in Indonesia for quite some time.
Hyundai assured that customer feedback is part of the ongoing evaluation process. The company is now working to thoroughly investigate the matter before determining a resolution for the case.
