JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The global geopolitical situation is beginning to impact various industrial sectors, including the automotive industry, which heavily relies on the global supply chain. However, PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) has not yet felt these conditions. Chief Operating Officer of HMID, Fransiscus Soerjopranoto, assured that the supply of components and Hyundai’s production processes in Indonesia are still running normally. “Our supply chain is still quite good and there are no problems yet. It’s still safe,” Fransiscus said when met in South Jakarta on Wednesday (15/4/2026). He explained that for full electric models (Battery Electric Vehicle/BEV), Hyundai already has a domestic battery supply. The battery production facility in Karawang is said to be a key support in maintaining production stability. “For Hyundai’s EV cars, the supply now includes batteries. In other words, the battery plant we’ve established in Karawang greatly supports our EV production,” he stated. Not only that, the domestic component level (TKDN) for electric models like the Kona is already quite high. “Then the local components for the Kona are already up to 80 percent. Because the battery is already in Indonesia,” Fransiscus added. Meanwhile, for conventional engine models that remain the backbone of sales, such as the Stargazer and Creta, Hyundai also relies on strong local supplies. With such high TKDN levels, Hyundai is considered more resilient to potential global supply chain disruptions compared to if it were still dependent on imported components. This also demonstrates the importance of production localisation strategies in maintaining automotive industry stability amid global dynamics.
