Hyundai begins Ioniq 3 production in Turkey

Hyundai has begun producing the Ioniq 3 electric car at its plant in Izmit, Turkey, making it the first electric passenger car from a foreign automaker to be manufactured in the country. Hyundai has invested £213 million, equivalent to Rp5.1 trillion, to prepare the production facility. The Izmit plant has also undergone a major transformation over the past two years to be ready to produce electric vehicles. The plant has actually been producing Hyundai vehicles since 1997 and is the company’s first and longest-operating overseas production facility. For the initial phase, Hyundai is targeting production of around 30,000 Ioniq 3 units per year at the Izmit plant. The Ioniq 3 was previously introduced by Hyundai in an N Line variant in April 2026, followed by the Standard version in July. The first variant uses a 42.2 kWh battery with a 147 horsepower motor. The second variant carries a larger 61 kWh battery but uses a 135 horsepower motor.
