Hyundai Motor Company has taken a significant step to enter the last-mile mobility market in India. The South Korean brand has officially partnered with TVS Motor Company by signing a joint development agreement (JDA) to mass-produce electric three-wheeled vehicles (E3W). According to Autocar India, this project is a continuation of the E3W concept that was showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. Although inspired by the shape of the bajaj or rickshaw common in India, the E3W is more than just a three-wheeled vehicle. Based on technical data when it was still a concept, the vehicle has a wheelbase 280 mm longer than a standard rickshaw, making the cabin space much more spacious. On the fascia, there is a digital screen that can display short messages, similar to the route panels on modern buses. This collaboration also emphasises production cost efficiency through high component localisation. Given that India is the world’s largest three-wheeler vehicle market, Hyundai and TVS aim to source major components locally to keep the selling price competitive. The E3W is planned to be available in several flexible interior configurations, from passenger transport, goods delivery vehicles (logistics), to emergency services. Although it has officially entered the production development stage for three-wheelers, there is currently no further information regarding the fate of the E4W (electric four-wheeler) concept that was previously displayed alongside the E3W.
