Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Corp. sold more than 100,000 electric vehicles in Europe during the first half of this year as the South Korean automakers intensify efforts to strengthen their presence in the region.
According to reports from Yonhap on Sunday (2/8) local time, 131,032 electric vehicles were sold in Europe during the first six months of 2026, a sharp increase of 41.8 per cent compared to the 92,365 units recorded during the same period the previous year, according to Hyundai and Kia.
The Kia EV3 compact electric SUV emerged as the best-selling model with 27,121 units sold, followed by the Hyundai Inster subcompact SUV with 16,594 units and the Kia EV4 sedan with 14,502 units.
Hyundai and Kia first recorded annual electric vehicle sales in Europe exceeding 100,000 units in 2021. Since then, their combined sales have continued to rise, reaching 183,912 units in 2025. The cumulative electric vehicle sales for both companies in Europe have surpassed 1 million units as of May.
The two automakers, both operating under the Hyundai Motor Group, continue to expand their electric vehicle lineup in Europe amidst sustained demand for eco-friendly vehicles. They currently offer 14 electric vehicle models in the region.
“As competition in the European electric vehicle market becomes increasingly intense, we plan to continue expanding our electric vehicle range to increase our market share,” said a source within the conglomerate.
