Pekanbaru - A Hajj pilgrim from Pekanbaru City, Riau Province, Baharuddin Sidi Biditek, passed away in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, while preparing for the peak Hajj rituals to Arafah, Muzdalifah, and Mina (Armuzna).

Defizon, Head of the Riau Province Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (Kemenhaj) Regional Office, stated that Baharuddin died at 06:40 on Saturday, 23 May at Hotel Safa Al Marjan in Mecca. The deceased had a history of hypertension.

“On behalf of the Riau Province Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, we extend our deepest condolences for the passing of Mr. Baharuddin Sidi Biditek. May he attain a good end, have his sins forgiven, and his family be granted patience and acceptance in this trial,” Defizon said in Pekanbaru on Sunday.

Defizon explained that the government, through Hajj officials, will ensure all rights of the pilgrim are fulfilled, including performing a substitute Hajj (badal haji) for the deceased. Hajj pilgrims who pass away before the main rituals are entitled to insurance coverage as per regulations.

“Besides a substitute Hajj, insurance will also be provided according to applicable regulations. Our Ministry of Hajj will assist with all related processes for the pilgrim,” he added.

Baharuddin Sidi Biditek resided at Jalan Paus Gang Kayangan No. 11, Pekanbaru City. After final arrangements, he is scheduled to be prayed over at Masjidil Haram before burial in Mecca.
