Hydroponic Melon Cultivation Supports Food Security in Ternate

Farmer Fandi Johar checks the quality of sweet lavender melon fruit cultivated using a modern hydroponic system in Gambesi Ward, Ternate, North Maluku, on Thursday (14/5/2026). The hydroponic melon cultivation on approximately 180 square metres of land can accommodate around 560 melon plants and produces 300 kilograms of melon fruit every 70 days per harvest, which is marketed through an agrotourism system at a price of Rp50,000 per kilogram, and is hoped to become a solution for urban farming in supporting food security.
