PT Hutama Karya (Persero) has implemented operational restrictions on freight transport across several sections of the Trans Sumatera toll road during the 2026 Eid holiday exodus and return period, including the Pekanbaru-Dumai toll route in Riau Province.

Acting Executive Vice President and Company Secretary of Hutama Karya, Hamdani, stated that the restrictions follow a Joint Decree issued by the government through the Transportation Ministry, the Traffic Police Command (Korlantas Polri), and the Public Works Ministry regarding traffic management and crossings during the 2026 Eid transport period.

“The implementation of these restrictions represents Hutama Karya’s support for government policy to maintain smooth traffic flow and enhance road user safety during the exodus and return periods,” Hamdani said in a statement issued in Pekanbaru on Tuesday.

The policy is implemented to anticipate the surge in vehicle volumes during the Eid holiday whilst maintaining traffic flow and improving road safety. Director General of Land Transport at the Transportation Ministry, Aan Suhanan, explained that the policy was adopted because every Eid period sees a spike in vehicle movement, particularly on major routes.

“Like the Eid transport arrangements in previous years and the year-end holiday period, we anticipate a surge in public movement. To maintain smooth traffic flow and enhance road safety standards, it is necessary to regulate logistics vehicles,” Aan stated.

The vehicles subject to operational restrictions include freight vehicles with three or more axles, vehicles with trailers, articulated trailers, and vehicles carrying mining products, mineral resources, and building materials.

However, the government has granted exemptions for certain essential cargo including fuel or gas vehicles, livestock, fertiliser, disaster relief supplies, and basic necessities. Vehicles receiving exemptions must still comply with dimensional and weight requirements and be equipped with official transport documentation.
