Hutama Karya's 'Sekolah Rakyat' Ready for New Academic Year
PT Hutama Karya (Persero) is entering the final phase of completing the construction of Sekolah Rakyat (SR) in DKI Jakarta and Banten provinces. The state-owned enterprise is preparing all facilities to be functional and ready for use by the new 2026/2027 academic year, which begins in mid-July 2026. This construction is an assignment from the Ministry of Public Works, forming part of a national priority programme initiated by President Prabowo Subianto to break the chain of structural poverty through decent and inclusive access to education.
The quickest progress has been shown at the DKI Jakarta SR project in Cilandak District, South Jakarta. This school is built on a 2.94-hectare plot of land with a total building area reaching 29,529 square metres. Most buildings are now in the final finishing stage, with completion per building averaging close to 100 percent, including the school building, student dormitories, canteen, multipurpose hall, and teaching support facilities. All buildings are targeted for completion and functional readiness by 2026, just before the new academic year commences. Remaining works consist of final detail completion such as painting, installation of door leaves and windows, and ceiling finishing.
Meanwhile, the Banten SR construction is taking place at two locations, namely Pandeglang Regency and Lebak Regency, situated on expansive and green areas of 11.26 hectares and 8.89 hectares respectively. Both projects are now in the final completion stage, with learning support facilities being prioritised for functionality to support activities at the start of the academic year, while the completion of the entire area continues to be accelerated. As an integrated boarding education area, the SRs in both provinces are designed to be self-contained within a single environment, encompassing school buildings for elementary, junior high, and senior high levels, student dormitories, teacher flats, a mosque, a multipurpose hall, and utility buildings and landscaping. All facilities are arranged in an integrated manner to support the teaching and learning process as well as character building, creating an equal growth space for students from underprivileged families.
Hutama Karya’s Acting Executive Vice President of Corporate Secretary, Hamdani, stated that timely completion is a priority as it directly relates to students’ readiness to enter the new academic year. “Our focus is ensuring that every SR facility is truly functional and safe for use precisely at the start of the new academic year. The speed we pursue is never traded for quality, because these buildings must be able to serve as a proper second home for the children in the long term,” Hamdani said. To meet this target, all SR sites worked on by Hutama Karya are being accelerated through a three-shift work scheme running 24 hours non-stop, with a gradual weekly increase in manpower until reaching peak requirements. As of early July 2026, more than a thousand workers have been deployed across the three SR sites in DKI Jakarta and Banten, with the number continuing to be increased periodically. At this stage, work is focused on completing architectural finishes and mechanical-electrical-plumbing installations inside the buildings, as well as tidying up landscape areas and access routes to the buildings. “Through the construction of SR, Hutama Karya is committed to overseeing the President’s priority programme to break the poverty chain through education. The role of state-owned construction firms does not stop at erecting buildings, but also includes preparing a space for the future of the nation’s next generation, in line with the Government’s Asta Cita,” Hamdani concluded.
