PT Hutama Karya (Persero) supports the strengthening of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by providing business spaces at rest areas along the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS). This support is implemented through a programme offering rental fee relief for tenants at JTTS rest areas in the form of a 50 percent discount. The programme is targeted at local business actors, particularly MSMEs, to give them greater opportunities to expand their markets and increase the competitiveness of their products along the JTTS corridor. “Through this programme, we want to provide a more open space for MSME actors to expand their markets and reach more customers,” said Hutama Karya’s Director of Operations III, Iwan Hermawan, in a press release received by Kompas.com on Wednesday (13/5/2026). The promotional scheme applies to tenants with a minimum rental duration of three months. Under this scheme, a three-month renter will receive an additional rental period, making it six months. Meanwhile, tenants renting for six months will get a rental period of one year. This scheme applies multiplicatively. Through this relief, business actors have more time to introduce their products, build customers, and optimise business opportunities at JTTS rest areas. Currently, there are more than 460 MSMEs occupying 29 rest areas along the JTTS corridor. These locations are spread across the Sigli–Banda Aceh, Binjai–Langsa, Indrapura–Kisaran, Pekanbaru–Dumai, Pekanbaru–Bangkinang–Koto Kampar, Padang–Sicincin, Terbanggi Besar–Pematang Panggang–Kayu Agung, Indralaya–Prabumulih, and Bengkulu–Taba Penanjung sections. In addition to enhancing connectivity, JTTS is also expected to drive the regional economy through the creation of business opportunities and new jobs in the areas around the toll road operations. “We present JTTS not only to facilitate public mobility but also to open up broader economic opportunities. Through rest areas, local MSME actors have space to market their products, expand their customer networks, and grow together with increasing inter-regional connectivity in Sumatra,” Iwan explained. According to him, rest areas play a strategic role as economic activity hubs along the toll road.
