Husein Sastranegara Airport to Serve Eight Routes Upon Reactivation
The Bandung city government in West Java has confirmed that Husein Sastranegara Airport will serve eight domestic flight destinations upon its reactivation. The operational period is scheduled to take place between July and September 2026.
Mayor of Bandung Muhammad Farhan stated that the eight projected flight routes to be served again by Husein Sastranegara Airport are Denpasar, Balikpapan, Medan, Pontianak, Makassar, Batam, Padang, and Pekanbaru.
“Everyone has agreed to operate the airport between July, August, or September. We are still waiting,” said Farhan.
Farhan explained that flight operations are fully under the authority of the Ministry of Transportation. Nevertheless, the Bandung city government continues to prepare various supporting infrastructures so the airport is ready to resume operations.
He said a number of physical works have already commenced. These works include repairing public street lighting, improving the drainage system, enhancing road access, and organising the parking area.
Improvements are focused on the routes leading to Husein Sastranegara Airport, particularly on Jalan Abdulrahman Saleh and Jalan Pajajaran, which are the main access roads to the airport area. Furthermore, Farhan said the government is also coordinating with the Indonesian Air Force regarding parking area arrangements because the airport area is an Air Force asset.
“The repair of street lighting, drainage, access on Jalan Abdulrahman Saleh and Pajajaran, including parking management, is being prepared. Because the area is an Indonesian Air Force asset, implementation is carried out in coordination with and with the approval of the Air Force,” Farhan stated.
He assessed that most of the physical preparations have been completed. However, there is still some homework to be resolved, especially regarding the parking system and transport arrangements in the airport area.
“The remaining homework now concerns parking and parking management as well as taxis. It has been confirmed that no mass public transport such as angkot or buses are allowed to enter there,” said Farhan.
