Husein Sastranegara Airport Scheduled to Resume Operations on 17 September
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation at the Ministry of Transportation has announced that Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung, West Java, is scheduled to resume operations on 17 September 2026, based on readiness reports submitted by Angkasa Pura. “Information from Angkasa Pura for Husein Sastranegara Airport Bandung is that they have prepared for operations on 17 September,” said Director General Lukman F. Laisa in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Lukman stated that the Ministry of Transportation, together with Angkasa Pura (InJourney Airports), has conducted inspections of the airport’s condition to ensure operational readiness before its reopening. The review results indicate that Husein Airport currently only serves flights using propeller aircraft, necessitating several adjustments before it can resume serving jet aircraft.
According to him, one of the steps being taken is upgrading the Aviation Accident Rescue and Fire Fighting (PKP-PK) category from category five to category seven to meet the operational standards for jet aircraft. Additionally, the runway surface will be repaired through pavement overlay, as it has not been used for jet aircraft operations for some time.
The Ministry of Transportation is also preparing improvements to various support systems at the airport, including the baggage handling system, X-ray screening, and lighting systems, to ensure all facilities meet safety standards. On the operational side, the Ministry has prepared notification letters to all stakeholders regarding the plan to resume Husein Sastranegara Airport’s operations for jet aircraft services.
Lukman added that the government is currently mapping out route distribution and awaiting proposals from airlines regarding the destinations they wish to serve before finalising an operational plan according to market needs. “We are currently dividing the routes and we will look at the demand from the airlines regarding which routes they want. Once there is demand, we can then create a plan for operations according to the existing conditions,” said Lukman.
Meanwhile, PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (Persero), or InJourney Airports, is accelerating the operational readiness of Husein Sastranegara Airport to support the optimisation of domestic and international flights in Bandung, West Java. InJourney Airports President Director Mohammad R Pahlevi stated that this step aligns with government policy as outlined in the Directorate General of Civil Aviation Letter Number AU.102/1/8/DRJU.DAU/2026.
