Husein Sastranegara Airport Officially Renamed Bandung International Airport
Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung has officially been renamed Bandara Internasional Husein Sastranegara Bandung. The official name was established by InJourney through airport operator Angkasa Pura.
Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan explained on Wednesday (15/7) that the change concerns the airport’s official name, not its overall branding concept. The city government is currently developing a concept to ensure passengers immediately experience Bandung’s identity upon arrival. “There is no change to the branding design. The design is about how, when someone lands in Bandung, for example from Medan, they enter the airport and want to feel the atmosphere of Bandung,” he said.
According to Farhan, the city government is considering various elements to bring the distinctive nuances of Bandung to the airport area, from visual displays and ornaments to cultural elements that create a strong first impression for tourists and business travellers. He considers the airport the city’s main gateway, making it essential to showcase Bandung’s identity as a creative, cultured, and attractive tourist destination.
In terms of infrastructure, several preparations have been completed, including traffic engineering, improved street lighting, access point arrangements, and supporting infrastructure upgrades to facilitate the airport’s resumed operations. Civil works under the local government’s authority, such as road resurfacing and pick-up and drop-off area arrangements, are now ready for use. Parking area management and official transportation within the airport complex will be regulated directly by the Husein Sastranegara Air Force Base together with its management partners. The city government is also preparing a Bandung city branding concept for the departure and arrival terminals after being given the opportunity by InJourney.
Farhan highlighted that the education sector is one of Bandung’s main strengths, with prestigious institutions like the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) attracting students from across Indonesia. Shopping tourism, culinary experiences, and closely located destinations also provide added value for the city compared to other regions.
Meanwhile, Bandung City Transportation Agency Head Rasdian Setiadi stated that a series of coordination efforts with the police, national and provincial road managers, and various stakeholders have been carried out to ensure smooth access to the airport. “We have been coordinating from the beginning, including a traffic management trial on 7 July 2026. The aim is to ensure smooth vehicle flow to and from the airport when flight operations resume,” he said. The traffic scheme to the airport has now returned to normal routes. Vehicles entering through the main gate will use the left lane to reach the parking area, while those only dropping off passengers will be directed to loop around to the drop-off area on the left side of the terminal. This engineering is designed to make vehicle movement more orderly and prevent queues at the airport entrance.
